Complus Consulting provides efficient, performing and cost effective solutions which allow you to identify data which is not be longing to your organisation, and to track any copy (even incomplete) of such data.
Company is declaring its internally produced content or licensed content in the system.
Depending upon corporate policy, users might be authorised to declare their personal content, provided always such content is copyright-free.
Complus Consulting technology is then used to tag such content with markers.
List of markers are then sent to agents on computers of the corporate network.
These agents parse the multimedia files and identify untagged content. Existence of untagged content generates an alarm, and possible automated actions such as deletion of the files.
The Copyright Challenge
In today’s connected world, in which personal and professional use of systems are mixed within organizations IT systems, such organisations are facing high risks of becoming unvoluntary involved in piracy cases.
Users import within their professional environment, sometimes unwillingly, copyrighted digital content, therefore creating as many copyright infrigement cases.
Copyright owners have shown a deep interest into investigating these corporate cases, as they find more lucrative to audit and sue companies than to do it with individuals : large number of users generate as many possible simultaneous cases of infrigement, which are worthwile to prosecute as the companies have generally a solvability which allow them to pay heavy fines, and are very sensitive about their reputation and possible legal risks for their management.
Companies cannot anymore ignore the problem, and have to fight it, but they face complex issues in order to implement sustainable, cost-effective and efficient solutions.
A Complex Case
Copyright infringement arises from the ability of the users to import third party data into the corporate IT system by making a standard use of the tools they are provided with by the company itself :
- CD/DVD readers on the computers (with official use for installation, copying and backup of programs and data)
- Smartphone connected to computers (with official use for synchronizing of agendas and contacts)
- Ability to connect USB devices (with official use for data transfer)
- Internet connections (with official use for user productivity and access to information)
Once imported into the corporate system, these third party data are easily disseminated into the company through the use of the internal network.
